Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Adam & Hawa (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (the “Service”). We operate in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

We collect information you provide when creating and managing your account, including contact details, date of birth, gender, location, and profile information such as educational background, occupation, and family circumstances.

2.2 Special Category Data

Because Adam & Hawa is a matrimonial service for Muslims, we collect information about your religious beliefs and practices as part of your profile. This is classified as special category data under Article 9 of the UK GDPR. We process this data solely on the basis of your explicit consent, given when you create your profile. You may withdraw this consent at any time by deleting your account or contacting us.

2.3 Automatically Collected Information

When you use the Service, we automatically collect technical data such as your device type and operating system, a push notification token for delivering alerts, and usage data such as login times and session duration.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Match you with compatible potential marriage partners
  • Enable messaging and contact exchange between users
  • Send push notifications about activity on your account
  • Prevent fraud and abuse and keep the Service secure
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data on the following legal bases:

  • Your consent — for profile data and push notifications
  • Explicit consent (Article 9(2)(a)) — for religious belief information (special category data)
  • Contract performance — to deliver the Service you have signed up for
  • Legal obligations — where required by law
  • Legitimate interests — for platform security and fraud prevention

5. Information Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share information:

  • With other users — profile information is visible to other registered users according to your privacy settings. Family contact numbers are only shared when both parties have mutually consented to an exchange.
  • With service providers — we use Google Firebase (messaging and notifications), Amazon Web Services (server infrastructure), and Stripe (payment processing). These providers access only the data necessary to perform their services and are bound by data processing agreements.
  • When required by law — in response to a court order or lawful request from a government authority.

6. International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers (notably Google Firebase) may process data outside the UK. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure. No method of data transmission is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile is removed from the Service immediately. Some data may be retained for a limited period thereafter where required by law (for example, financial records). See our Data Protection Policy for full retention periods.

9. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Restrict or object to how we process your data
  • Receive your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time (including consent to process religious data)
  • Lodge a complaint with the ICO at ico.org.uk

To exercise these rights, contact us at info@adamhawa.com. We will respond within one calendar month.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed at anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the date below.
